Checkers - A game for everyone
Mervin Trimmer, or Mr. Trimmer to me, was one of my favorite people. I was young so my memories are rather limited. However, the memories I have been able to keep are fond ones. We played checkers, he smoked a pipe, he did wood working projects in his barn, and wore the same shirt most days, he had a few of them… (at least so I remember).
It doesn't matter your age, race, sex, gender, political affiliation, when it comes to checkers we are all equal. Maybe more or less practiced for sure, but at the end of the day checkers brings folks together. It's a simple game of strategy that can be drawn out or completed quickly. It takes little time to learn and as much time as you care to master. In today's busy word with more distractions and events, ideas, and desires pulling at one's mind, checkers is a simple game allowing one to step back and enjoy the challenge of moving pieces in an effort to defeat a friendly enemy. |
